KOL, (Homo Sapiens)
2009-2010
Grey granite: 3 cubes measuring: 50 x 50 x 50 cm. each bares an inscription on the lateral facets : Homo Sapiens, Soul and Spirit. 2 head like 47 cm. diameter semi spheres with hard stones eyes built in.
Sitting in the Paseo de las Colectividades,(the community walk) in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche as from January 6th. 2010. The piece now belongs to the City Town hall cultural Estate.
Context : The artist was invited as a special guest, in order to create a piece for the site by the non profit, artists Project, Funded by the Argentinean National Endowment for the Arts. See: 2009-2010, Austrocedrus Arte contemporáneo a Cielo Abierto; www.austrocedrusartebariloche.blogspot.com
The piece intends to be a democratic commentary related to the desire of creating memory, by the various cultures installed in the region: as much for aboriginal cultures of all times, and all immigrant people’s who have arrived and settled in since the end of 19th century and colonised the area since the national project.

Short biography
Mónica Giron: born in San Carlos de Bariloche, Patagonia in 1959. Diploma in Knowledge of art and 3D Expression at École Supérieure d'Art Visuel, 1984, Geneva, Switzerland. Lives and works in Buenos Aires since 1985.

Participated in IASPIS the 2005 International Artists Studio Program in Stockholm, Sweden, RIAA (International Art Residency for Artists in Argentina) 2008, the Barracas Grant–Fundación Antorchas 1994-1995.
Currently teaching at Artists Program at Torcuato di Tella University. Directed seminar at Universidad Nacional del Nordeste, 2011, in Resistencia Chaco, Argentina. Visiting artist activities at the Fine Arts Academy, Helsinki, 2007, at the Fine Arts Academy in Bergen, Norway from 1997 to 2007. At Ruth Viegener's studio in Bariloche, Patagonia, from 1992 to 2001, and for Fundación Antorchas Grants for the provinces program in Posadas, Misiones, during 1999. Study program in her studio in Buenos Aires, 1991 to 2004.
